Glen Powell stars as the eponymous Running Man in Edgar Wright’s new adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Written in 1982 under King’s pen name Richard Bachman, the original novel was first made into a film in 1987. Powell and Wright are upping the action and taking the dystopian game show worldwide, sticking closer to the original book’s source material.
The movie centers around Powell entering the violent game show “The Running Man” and having to survive for 30 days while being hunted across the world. Is there a sequined blazer worn by Colman Domingo’s game show host? Yes. While Domingo is in competition with Richard Dawson’s more restrained game show host performance from the 1987 version, Domingo shines in the trailer with the ecstatic circus ringmaster energy needed for any American game show in the 2020s, even with the algorithm and SEO-friendly focus on hunting people for sport.
Directed by Edgar Wright and written by Wright and Michael Bacall, the film stars Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Sean Hayes, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin.
“The Running Man” will be in theaters November 7th, 2025.
