Director Kelly Reichardt brings Josh O’Connor along in an art heist art film hitting theaters this October. “The Mastermind” is set in the 1970’s and follows suburban family man O’Connor who lives a double life as an art thief. Reichardt directs from her own script and the trailer showcases her deliberate and minimalist style as we follow the day-to-day of layabout as he watches his kids and plans a caper.

The film also stars Alana Haim, Hope Davis, John Magaro, Gaby Hoffmann, and Bill Camp. “The Mastermind” film had its world premiere at the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 23rd, 2025, where it was nominated for the Palme d’Or. It will be released by Mubi and in theaters on October 17th, 2025.
