While Mortal Kombat (2021) was set before the iconic titular Mortal Kombat tournament, Mortal Kombat 2 officially signals the start of the fantasy martial-arts contest to determine the fate of Earthrealm from the forces of Outworld. This time around more fan-favorites from the videogames have signed up on the proverbial Mortal Klipboard to fight including Noob Saibot, the undead wraith from the Netherrealm and a member of a cult called the Brotherhood of the Shadow who worships a fallen Elder God, and Baraka, the sharp-toothed, retractible arm-bladed mutant! The most-anticipated new Kombatant is Johnny Cage, Hollywood action movie star sought out by the heroes of the first film to join their fight against nefarious sorcerer Quan Chi, shape-shifting sorcerer Shang Tsung, hair-based sorceress Sindel, and giant war hammer-based emperor Shao Kahn.

Mortal Kombat II is an upcoming American martial arts fantasy film directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, based on the Mortal Kombat video game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film stars returning cast members Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada, with Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle joining the cast.

Mortal Kombat II will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures  and in theaters May 15th, 2026.
